McCoy Inc. was founded in 1972. We got our start by servicing and
installing office furniture. Even though we are primarily known today
as a furniture company, it was really service that started our success
story; and to this day, service remains the backbone of our business.
In 1981, a milestone event happened. We began selling office furniture
manufactured by Steelcase, the largest furniture manufacturer in the
world.
In 1985, Thad Minyard, Stan Bunting and Sandy Saxe purchased the
company from its original owner, Henry McCoy. Houston experienced an
economic downturn during the 80’s, but McCoy thrived.
In 1991, we began a new adventure with the creation of our Floor
Covering division. We offer carpet, resilient floors, ceramic tiles and
wood flooring, as well as providing our own maintenance program.
In 1993, we made the headlines again when we purchased our largest
competitor, Wilson Business Products. Shortly thereafter, we became the
only Steelcase dealer in the Houston market and that remains today.
In 1994, McCoy won the Steelcase Exemplary Dealer Award. This award
recognized McCoy’s accomplishments in many areas including
strategic planning, management practices, customer focus, financial
condition, and commitment to quality improvement. The application for
this award is so tough that only 15 of the 450 Steelcase dealers across
the country submitted applications for the award. McCoy Inc. was one of
the four winners. The trophy is proudly displayed in our showroom.
In 1996, after having outgrown our location at 611 West 38th Street, we
began a year and a half of searching for the right location, planning
and reconstruction. In December 1997, McCoy Inc. and McCoy Floor
Covering moved to our current location – 6869 Old Katy Road.
On January 1, 1998, our name was officially changed to McCoy Workplace
Solutions.
McCoy owners are active in every aspect of the day-to-day operations of
the company. The owners are: Stan Bunting- President & CEO, Scott Skrabanek- CFO & COO, Phil Kellen- McCoy Floor Covering President, Ken Beaver- VP of Sales & Marketing and Kristie Trice- VP of Human Resources.
McCoy values its responsibilities to the Houston community. We want to
do our share in supporting community institutions and worthwhile civic
programs.
McCoy is proud of its leading position in the office furniture and
service business. To support this commitment, we participate in
community and charitable events by way of employee involvement and
financial contributions.
As a corporation, McCoy donates significant monies to Houston charities
and nonprofit organizations. The 60 plus benefactor organizations
include the Shell Houston Open Golf Tournament, Houston Grand Opera,
Rice Design Alliance, The Heritage Society, SIDS Alliance, The Cystic
Fibrosis Foundation, The Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo, Junior
Achievement and The Escape Center.
